Sierra RS Cosworth Dashboard

Suspension Strut Tops

The strut tops are a direct replacement for the original steel ones and each  consists of 7 layers of carbon laid at different angles to produce maximum strength throughout. They are as you would expect extremely light weighing only 50gms the original steel ones are 320gms.

Each dashboard is produced using vacuum infusion with the best epoxy resins.

The vacuum imparts a pressure on the carbon in the mould of 9 metric tons over it's entire area. Once a full vacuum is achieved the resin is infused evacuating any remaining air until a full infusion of the part is complete. The vacuum is then locked off and the moulds heated to aid curing. Once cured the heaters remain on, in this case for a further 8 hours post curing the part. This produces a stable part which will hold it's shape and strength. Resin infusion produces parts with a carbon to resin ratio of 60/40 this results in the dashboard being very light and extremely strong.

To produce each dashboard there are 8 separate moulds, 1 for the main section, 1 for the underside, 1 for the ECU cover, 2 for the side fixing brackets, 1 for the steering column area stiffener, 1 for the lower dash outer locating points and 1 for the heating/ventilation ducting. All parts are produced using carbon fibre except the ducting which is glass fibre. The ECU cover is removeable and locates using two lower and one upper central spring type carbon fibre clip.

Each dashboard is given a 2K matt laquer finish with a 20% opacity (see the Escort Cosworth heatshield for 20% opacity) it requires around 80 hours to complete each dashboard.

Escort Cosworth Gauge Holder

This gauge holder was produced from a design brief we were given by an RS Owners Club member. We were asked if we could produce a neat gauge holder following the contour of the heater/ventilation outlet to fit inside the 2mm recess so the completed part would look stock. It had to house the larger 60mm rim diameter of the Defi gauges and allow them to fit flush. The width of the recess is 189mm. This required a two part mould to be produced, a contoured front cover which is bonded to the recessed gauge housing section completes the holder. This is held in place by two upper locating clips and a lower cam type clip, all carbon fibre.

The pictures show Autometer gauges and the customer own Defi gauges installed. The Autometer gauges have a smaller 56mm rim diameter. If the customer supplies us with the rim diameter of their gauges the front plate can be custom cut to suit. Finishes can be either a gloss or matt carbon. The customers own stock facia will require removal of the complete vent section to allow the holder to fit.
